Oklahoma State escaped Boone Pickens Stadium with a Double overtime victory over Arkansas on Saturday, 39-31. However, both teams played a mistake-prone, sloppy game, and penalties at critical moments derailed trips to the red zone.
Huge Red Flags on Defense: The Cowboys gave up 648 yards of total offense to a team that isn’t exactly loaded with household names on offense.
Both Lines were dominated: Arkansas had 232 yards on the ground in part because of complete domination by the offensive line especially in the 1st half. You could drive a truck through the holes opened up in the 1st half. It was a better effort by the Cowboys in the 2nd half, but seeing your unit dominated by a middle-of-the-road SEC team isn’t encouraging. The offensive line for Oklahoma State wasn’t much better, Ollie Gordon III had no room to run and totaled 49 yards.
The positives: It’s not all doom and gloom for the Cowboys they managed to pick up a non-conference win against a quality opponent even if it wasn’t pretty. The defense also only gave up 31 points despite giving up nearly 700 yards showing a bend but not break mentality. Oklahoma State is also still undefeated and the goal of making it to the College Football Playoffs is still in reach.
