In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Medford Cardinals Head Football Coach Blake Lamle to discuss the upcoming Quarter-Final Matchup against the Ryan Cowboys.
Lamle discussed the previous week’s matchup against Bowlegs with a score of 66 to 0.
“Defense played really solid…we were where we needed to be, and offensively, getting the ball to our playmakers.”
The coach also discussed how the team kept going after losing their offensive player Ethan Gonzales.
“I made no bones about it, we had to get Coach Geiser to coach defense. he did it for me in 2020; getting him back out there helping us has been huge. Ethan [got] hurt as early as he did last year, he was 90% of our offense and we stumbled a little bit…the guys had to step up and play really big minutes they weren’t used to doing because Ethan got the lion’s share of the load. Never want to say that an injury was helpful when you lose your best player, but it did allow those other guys an opportunity to step up.”
Lamle finished off by talking about the tense game against Welch despite the rough plays from the Cardinals.
“That was really scary because we didn’t play very well. We had five turnovers. Ethan had three, that’s not characteristic of him or us at all. In that game, we gave ’em five extra possessions and gave them safety. Us being able to battle back come through adversity and really close that game out.”
The Cardinals will face the Ryan Cowboys on Friday, Nov. 22. You can listen to the game LIVE at CTB Sports on Mix 95.7 FM. Pregame begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
