In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the NOC-Enid Head Softball Coach Steve Sissel to discuss the matchup with Connors State College.

Sissel began by talking about how the team is playing so far.

“We play really well and then we don’t play well. So we’re kind of up and down…We’ve got so many freshmen playing, and that’s something we know going in. It wasn’t a surprise, but I think we’re in a good spot with where we are right now.”

The coach gave his insight on the upcoming series.

“I expect a good series…I think we’ve got a good shot. We [have] to start scoring more runs; we just don’t score enough runs right now. And so, hopefully we can do that this weekend.”

“Weather permitting…they said like 80-90% chance of rain basically till Sunday So we may have to make up that game, too…You know, it’s still going to be even if we get down there and get to play, the outfield is going to be very wet. We just [have] to figure out a way to get our games in. ”

Coach Sissel was proud to share how the team has matured.

“Absolutely. And that’s something I said, that’s a growth part of things…There are times when I watch a player not do well. And they’re so hard on themselves that it carries over into the next time, next opportunity…They’ve got to get through [and] continue to mature.”
