Per TJ Eckert with KTUL the State of Oklahoma is in the early stages of adding a shot clock for girls and boys high school basketball for the 2026-2027 seasons. The OSSAA Basketball Advisory Committee narrowly approved the ruling, and the OIAAA voted in favor of the rule change as well.

The final decision will be made by the OSSAA Board. There have been calls for the state of Oklahoma to adopt a shot clock in basketball for years due to stalling tactics. Teams with leads in the 4th quarter are incentivized to run off minutes instead of trying to score as it puts them in the best position to win the game.

Sometimes you’ll even see teams stall the entire game to keep the game low-scoring. A shot clock would eliminate these strategies and give more teams a chance to win late in games.
