In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Watonga Head Baseball Coach John Cope to discuss the upcoming Merrifield Tournament.
“It’s one of the highlights of the season. We always look forward to going there and playing in that beautiful facility against top-level competition, so it’s definitely circled on the calendar every year for us.”
The coach wanted to highlight the seniors of the team.
“We’re led by our seniors. I have five of them, and all five [have] pitched for me. They’re the leaders of the lineup and on the mound: Parker Roberts, K.J. Eastep, Talon Smith, Cole Allen, Tyshawn Wilson.”
He went on about the key to success for the team.
“What has led us this year is our pitching. Those guys on the mound have filled the strike zone full of strikes and allowed us to really become a pretty good team on the mound and defensively as well. When you throw strikes, your defense plays better.”
