‘Civil War’ Debuts With $25 Million At The Weekend Box Office

Civil War, the dystopian thriller about a divided America, earned $25.7m in debut. That’s the biggest start for an R-rated movie this year. Box office holdovers comprised the rest of the top five. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire remained in second place with $15.4 millions, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, stayed put in third with $5.3 million, Kung Fu Panda 4 moved up to No.4 with $5.2 million in its sixth weekend, and Dune: Part Two rounded out the top 5 with $74.3 million in its seventh weekend. With a total of $272 million in North America and an impressive $683 million worldwide, the sci-fi epic has emerged as the highest-grossing film of the year.
