Larry David mustered up an apology to Elmo on the Today show Thursday (February 1st), after the Curb Your Enthusiasm actor attacked the Sesame Street star during a live taping. The pair were part of separate segments, but David interrupted Elmo’s segment in order to ambush him.

“Let’s get back on the couch and talk about how you’re feeling,” Elmo said to the Seinfeld co-creator, as he walked away following the attack. “Somebody had to do it!” David yelled back.

Later, during his segment, David apologized to the puppet. “Elmo, I just want to apologize,” he said, laughing. “I’m really sorry.”

Elmo accepted his apology.
