Despite the unending public demand for David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason to reunite as Pink Floyd — David Gilmour has no interest. Although Gilmour and Mason still own the name, time and the 2008 death of keyboardist Rick Wright, have led Gilmour to let the band be remembered for the great work they did in their prime.
When asked if he would ever consider a Pink Floyd reunion, Gilmour told Guitar Player: "No. I'm done with it. I've had a life in Pink Floyd for quite a lot of years, and quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger. And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 percent joyous and full of fun and laughter, and I certainly don't want to let the other five percent color my view of what was a long and fantastic time together."
Gilmour went on to explain, "It has run its course, we are done, and it would be fakery to go back and do it again. And to do it without Rick would just be wrong. I'm all for Roger doing whatever he wants to do and enjoying himself and the joy he must have out of those Wall shows. I'm at peace with all of those things. But I absolutely don't want to go out and play stadiums. I'm free to do exactly what I want to do and how I want to do it."
Despite the fact that three-fourths of Pink Floyd's classic lineup are still alive, and in light of the Top Five success of the group's 2014 The Endless River album, David Gilmour explained to us that his work with Nick Mason and Roger Waters is truly a thing of the past: ["To be honest with you, I think I put the whole Pink Floyd thing to bed many, many years ago. And it does seem like it was as a coda to put out The Endless River as a final thing. But, I think really, truly, long before I made the On An Island album, I’d said goodbye to all that myself — maybe not quite as publicly as all that, but I thought I had."] SOUNDCUE (:22 OC: . . . thought I had)
