Foo Fighters have just topped their own record on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. The band currently holds the record for the most Number Ones in the history of the chart. The Foos' track "Waiting On A War" jumped from Number Three to the top spot this week, snagging "6 million audience impressions in the March 8th to 14th tracking period, up 14 percent, according to MRC Data."

"Waiting On A War," from the recent Medicine At Midnight collection, follows the band's last chart entry, “Shame Shame,” and continues a long line of Rock & Alternative chartings starting with 2009’s “Wheels.”

The Alternative Airplay chart — originally named the Alternative Songs and Modern Rock Tracks chart — was launched in Billboard September 10th, 1988. The chart ranks the 40 most-played songs on alternative and modern rock radio stations.

Leader Dave Grohl told us a while back that it's important to him to change things up on each new album: ["The best thing about being in a band and making music is doing as many things as possible and exploring as many different musical regions as you can get your hands into. And it's important for every artist to explore that or just take a stab at it. Records should be things that are important to the artists as well as the people."] SOUNDCUE (:19 OC: . . . as the people.)
