Late-Metallica Bassist Celebrated Today

Late-Metallica bassist Cliff Burton will be saluted today (February 19th) with "Cliff Burton Day" on what would have been his 59th birthday. The celebration can be accessed at at Twitch.tv/GomezGrip, with Blabbermouth posting, "The event will be emceed by Nicholas Gomez, with guests including Fred Cotton, James McDaniel, John Marshall, Harald Oimen, Metal Maria, Corrine Lynn, Sean Killian, and more."

The Cliff Burton Family Facebook page posted: "Join us for Cliff Burton Day 2021! February 10 @ 7 PM PST. Hear live interviews with our special guests. The show will be available at a later date on YouTube for those of you in a different time zone."

Cliff Burton joined Metallica in 1982 and performed on the band's first three studio albums. His died at age 24 in a tour bus crash on September 27th, 1986 while on tour Sweden.

At a January 2009 press conference announcing Metallica's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, James Hetfield was asked to speculate on what Burton would have thought of the honor: ["I hate playing 'what-ifs.' I love being here right now. Y'know, the spirit of Cliff lives in us, we take him everywhere we can, so I want to think that he would love this, the fact that Metallica is being recognized as something to reckon with."] SOUNDCUE (:15 OC: . . . be reckoned with)
