Coming out Friday, April 12th, is “One Deep River,” the 10th solo album — and first in six years — from former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler. The guitarist and his band, including right-hand-man and keyboardist Guy Fletcher, recorded the set over a period of time after pandemic lockdowns eased, and the troupe was quite prolific; while the core album has 12 songs, the vinyl edition features four bonus tracks while the CD and Blu-ray audio editions include an additional five, completely different bonus songs. Knopfler tells us he also recorded an additional four songs that he hopes to release on a separate EP at some point.

“One Deep River” features the addition of pedal and lap steel player Greg Leisz, celebrated for a hefty resume includes working with Eric Clapton, Jackson Browne, Beck, John Mayer and many more.

The album follows the release of a new all-star version of Knopfler’s 1983 film composition “Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero,” which features a who’s-who of musicians — Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Queen’s Brian May, the Who’s Pete Townshend are just a few — to raise money for Teenager Cancer Trust in the U.K. and Teen Cancer America.

Knopfler is also preparing for the April 25 launch of the syndicated TV show “Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends with AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson.

Knopfler — who also sold off 123 of his guitars at an auction earlier this year — tells us that he’s happy with how productive he’s been recently:
