Metallica Gets Muted By Twitch At Video Game Conference

Metallica’s livestream performance was muted at the Blizzcon video game conference over the weekend. It was the first time the band had played the conference since 2014 and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. A few seconds into the Twitch stream of the event, their music faded out and was replaced by computerized folk music instead, yet you could still see Metallica playing.

As fans watched online, they quickly flocked to Twitter with outrage, pointing the finger at Twitch. In recent years, Twitch has cracked down on the use of copyrighted audio on its platform under the (DMCA) Digital Millennium Copyright Act. In some cases, accounts have been locked, or banned entirely for the use of music they did not own the rights for.
