New Book ‘All You Need is Love: The Beatles’ Out Now

Out now is a new book, “All You Need is Love: The Beatles in their Own Words” (St. Martin’s Press) by former Apple Records executive Peter Brown and writer Steven Gaines. It’s a sequel to their 1983 “The Love You Make: An Insider’s Story of the Beatles,” a controversial project that offered a frank, warts and all history of the Fab Four‘s formation, rise and acrimonious break-up, revealing personal details about the band members’ personal lives and relationships. It was the first time, for instance, that an alleged sexual relationship between John Lennon and Beatles manager Brian Epstein was broached in public.

“All You Need is Love” gathers transcripts from the original interviews Brown and Gaines did for “The Love You Make,.” Gaines — who’s also written books about the Beach Boys and fashion designer Halston — tells us that the book provides a kind of validation to counter the criticisms he and Brown faced 40 years ago:
