Ringo Starr releases his new EP, Zoom In today (March 19th). The collection features cameos by such A-list friends as Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz, and the Doors' Robby Krieger.
We caught up with Ringo, and he shed light on how Zoom In saw him take a more relaxed attitude towards the album's sessions: ["With this record, I made the decision that ‘though I’m the producer and I do play the drums, and I do sing the songs — I didn’t have to put on all the other instruments that went on there. People were doin’ it at home. And I didn’t have to be the writer or the co-writer of the song. Diane Warren sent the first song ('Here's To The Nights') and that came out (in) December. All those people came out for me to sing on the chorus, which was Dave (Grohl) and Ben (Harper), and Joe (Walsh), and Sheryl Crow — Lenny Kravitz came out. Paul McCartney has announced the publication of Grandude’s Green Submarine, the sequel to his hit children’s book, Hey Grandude! The book is set for release on September 2nd — two years after the original best selling picture book. Once again "Macca" has teamed up with illustrator Kathryn Durst for the new story.
McCartney said in a statement: "I’m really happy with how Hey Grandude! was received, as this was a very personal story for me, celebrating Grandudes everywhere and their relationships and adventures with their grandchildren. I love that it has become a book read to grandkids at bedtime all around the world. I always said if people liked the first book and there was an appetite for more, I would write some further adventures for Grandude — so he’s back and this time with his special invention, Grandude’s green submarine!"
