Nearly a year after his break up with Miley Cyrus, Australian singer Cody Simpson is ready to answer some questions about their whirlwind romance.

Speaking recently with 60 Minutes Australia, the 24-year-old Simpson attests there is no bad blood between him and Cyrus.

“Everything ended fairly amicably,” the model explained. “It was just one of those phases I guess you go through and you learn a lot from it.”

Simpson also touched upon his prior relationship with the “Midnight Sky” singer, noting how the two were good friends before they became romantically involved.

“I’d known her for a long time at that point. She’d kind of acted almost as, like — not as a mentor, but she was always a heightened creative person,” he explained. “We went from kind of being good friends and just having a lot of the same friends to being together for a while.”

Simpson and Cyrus dated between October 2019 and August 2020.

Upon announcing that the two had gone their separate ways, Miley explained on Instagram Live, via Daily Mail, that “two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be.”

“We’ve been friends for ten years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not,” the Hannah Montana alum also said at the time.
