Lil Nas X was the subject of a lot of criticism this weekend when he released his new video for his new song "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" and the release of his "Satan Shoes" sneakers. The video was released on Friday (March 26th) and it featured scenes with Lil Nas X going down to hell on a stripper pole and giving a lap dance to Satan. The artist was accused of promoting satanic imagery.

According to Page Six, the upcoming sneakers, which are Air Max 97's, contain actual human blood in them. The sneaker was revamped by MSCHF and will come in a limited edition stock of 666 pairs, each individually numbered “x/666” in red embroidery. The sneakers will also contain 66 CCs of red ink, as well as one drop of human blood. Bible scripture Luke 10:18 is also emblazoned on the side, which is the scripture that references Satan’s banishment from heaven. There are also upside-down crosses and a pentagram attached to the shoe laces, as well as printed on it’s sole.

A Nike spokesperson released a statement, denying that they were involved in the making of the sneaker, saying, “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”

Lil Nas X responded to the criticism, saying, “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the sh*t y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay.  So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”

He later posted a video message about the shoe, where he said, “I see everybody’s been talking about this shoe and I just want to come forward and say," he then cut to his actual music video. He later pinned "IM SO SORRY" in his comments.
