On Tuesday, July 18th the City of Enid held its Mayor and Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting. During the meeting, the city passed an emergency resolution authorizing an expenditure of up to 5 million dollars to purchase an industrial park 7-0.

Part of the resolution is as follows “This emergency resolution approves the issuance of a Sales Tax Revenue Note by the Enid Municipal Authority to finance up to $5,000,000.00 for the acquisition of land for an industrial park of approximately 400 acres”.

Ward 6 Commissioner Scott Orr had some concerns about the resolution saying “We’re just jumping into this like I said we don’t even know what kind of business we’re targeting”. Orr would ultimately support the resolution.

The city authorized the purchase of the land because they are confident they can secure a grant that would award the city 15 million dollars once the land has been purchased, which would be used to improve infrastructure around the industrial park.

City officials hope to use the industrial park to lure a large business to Enid. However, it’s unclear which business or industry the city is targeting.

Also during the meeting, Enid Mayor David Mason welcomed Colonel Charles D. Throckmorton IV the new Commander of the 71st Flying Training Wing at Vance Airforce Base.

Throckmorton assumed command in July of this year, Mason welcomed Throckmorton saying “We are here to help that mission out there anything that we can do, and to welcome you and your family to our city”
