(Enid, OK) Following Chisholm Public Schools’ decision to not follow Gov. Kevin Stitt’s recommended policy of optional quarantines, Enid Public Schools will follow and continue to quarantine those exposed to COVID-19.

EPS students, teachers and staff are still required to quarantine, out of school, for up to 10 days after close contact with a positive case, according to the current procedure.

The district adopted these guidelines during the Board of Education meeting on Jan. 11th, as recommended by both the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Health Department.

A quarantined individual, however, may return to school if they test negative on day five and then also doesn’t develop symptoms after day seven, while continuing to monitor symptoms through day 14.

Individuals who test positive must still isolate for 10 days and masks are required on campuses when social distancing is not possible. according to district spokesperson Jane Johnson.

Several weeks ago, Gov. Stitt recommended that districts not quarantine students or staff exposed in a classroom setting. Stitt recommends that if the students or staff they should not be quarantined if they aren’t showing symptoms and are following a district’s COVID-19 safety protocols.
