Rep. Dick Lowe presented House Bill 2158 which will require students to master financial literacy before graduating.

The bill requires students to complete 1/2 unit of personal financial literacy coursework in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.

Lowe stated the inspiration for his bill.

“Requiring students to master financial literacy before graduating isn’t about balancing budgets,” said Lowe. “It’s about laying a good foundation as they begin the next chapter of their lives by equipping them with the tools they navigate financial decisions thoughtfully.”

Sen. Brenda Stanley authored House Bill 2158 which will take effect July 1, 2025.
