On Monday, May 1st the city of Enid swore in new Mayor David Mason, new Ward 1 Commissioner Judd Blevins, incumbent Ward 2 Commissioner Derwin Norwood, and incumbent Ward 5 Commissioner Rob Stallings.

Former Mayor George Pankonin gave some closing remarks and symbolically passed the gavel to David Mason, a gesture he compared to passing a flag to an Officer taking over your command. Mason gave an opening address asking for decorum and for the city commission to think big.

While the meeting was ongoing dozens of protesters gathered outside of city hall on the grass lawn across from the parking lot. The protestors were voicing their displeasure about the swearing-in of Ward 1 Commissioner Judd Blevins who they accused of having white nationalists ties.

The accusations stem from a 2019 article written by RightWingWatch a left-wing activist group.
