1926 - 2024

Celebration of life service for Olvette “Micki” Louise Mahan, age 97, of Enid will be 3:00pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at First Untied Methodist Church Chapel, with Pastor Devon Krause officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Olvette and her identical twin sister, Ynette were born August 23, 1926 and adopted at birth by Carl and Minnie Culley in El Reno, OK and passed away on March 3, 2024 in her home.

She attended and graduated from El Reno High School and went to St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She served in World War II as an Army Cadet Nurse and then returned home to attend Bethany Nazarene University to get her bachelors degree. Her Pastor had transferred to Laverne, OK and the Pastor’s wife ask a young lady in their new church to ride with her to attended her friend Olvette’s graduation, her name was Fae. The two instantly became friends and Olvette invited her to attend college with her, so Fae finished her high school and then joined her at Bethany Nazarene University. The following semester the church sent Olvette to the mission field for 10 years in Nicaragua, where she delivered many babies. Upon returning to Oklahoma she was hired by her good friend Fae to work at a Truck Stop in the restaurant, doing the night shift. There was a gentleman that also worked the night shift and he could never remember her name when he would get coffee from her, so he named her Micki, which stuck with her throughout the rest of her life.

She went back to school and earned her masters degree and taught French, Spanish and English at OU and Bethany Nazarene College. Micki loved children and was always grateful her parents adopted her and her twin sister, so she wanted to adopt also. She adopted two children, Ricky and JeDonne and she truly was known for her love and dedication to their every need. Her good friend Fae told her about a job at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she worked, and Micki moved to Enid to be a nurse. The two bought a house and Micki worked nights and Fae worked days so that they could raise the kids. She played the violin and passed that love down to both of her children and her daughter also sang beautifully.

Her daughter suffered a horrific accident and she wasn’t expected to live and she was transferred to St. Mary’s where Fae was a nurse on the surgery team at midnight, to help JeDonne. Micki worked hard to get her back on her feet. It was a true miracle and she trusted the Lord to help her through it all. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and later joined her twin sister and her husband at the First Untied Methodist Church.

Micki traveled extensively with her twin sister, Ynette, as they participated in twin’s conventions around the country where there were over 5,000 in attendance at a time. They were amazed at how many people looked like each other. Fae would go with them and dress like them and they were called “Twins with a Spare”. They had so much fun and made so many fabulous memories. A doctor, doing a study on aging, chose the twins and he gave them free face-lifts, for the age group in their 70’s. Fae took the twins to New York City, as their recovery nurse, for their face-lifts and Diane Sawyer interviewed them and their pictures and stories came out in newspapers and magazines. They had an adventure to remember.

She is survived by her children: JeDonne Mahan and Ricky Mahan and wife, Tonya; grandchildren, Jessica and Dakota; best friend Fae Owens (of 74yrs); brothers, Bill Culley (Lou), Don Culley (Dean) and Duane Culley (Judy); many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, identical twin sister Ynette Sapp, and sisters, Emma Brown, Doris Ming and Dorothy Adams.

Memorials may be made to the First Untied Methodist Church.
