Philip Brian Gainey
1947 - 2024

The funeral for Philip B. Gainey, 77 year-old Enid resident is 12:00 noon on Monday, February 5, 2024 in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. The Rev. Doctor John Toles officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.

Philip was born January 22, 1947 in Enid to R.D. and Dortha (Burnett) Gainey and died Sunday, January 28, 2024 in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa. He attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1965. He then attended Northwestern University. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval reserves and then went into active duty. While home from boot camp, he married Bonnie Kliewer in St. Matthew's Episcopal church on December 21, 1967. Soon after the wedding, he was deployed to Viet Nam. Back stateside, the couple lived in Yukon for a time and Philip reenlisted.

The couple moved back to Enid in 1995. He then continued his education at Phillips University where he obtained his Master's and graduated with the final class of that institution. He worked at Vance Air Force Base in the IT department. Philip was a long-time member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Lodge 80 and 501, member of the Eastern Star, and also the Shriners.

Philip started playing in bands when he was fourteen. He played all over Oklahoma and was a member of the house band at the Hilton on Northwest Highway in Oklahoma City, He played with countless local musicians. In the Navy he started as a radioman but took an aptitude test and scored so highly they made him a linguist. He was fluent in Mandarin. He enjoyed computers and watching Sci-Fi movies.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home, Children, Patrick Gainey of Enid and Chris Gainey and wife Kristi of Salina, OK. Four grandchildren; Shawn Michael and wife Dara, Kortney and husband Cody, Quint and wife Deena, and Tyler. Three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Silas, and Vash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Julie Gainey.
