Garfield County Gets First Cases of Coronavirus

(Enid, OK) Two confirmed cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in Garfield County according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Maggie Jackson, Oklahoma State Department of Health regional director of community engagement and health planning stated, “The Garfield County Health Department will continue to investigate COVID-19 cases and work to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks in our community,” Jackson said. “We ask that our neighbors continue to stay home and do their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our most vulnerable citizens,” Jackson said.

This development comes as more numbers of confirmed cases continue to rise in Oklahoma. Enid mayor George Pankanin issued an amendment to the city’s declaration of emergency. According to Pankonin’s declaration, all non-essential businesses are closed and residents are required to stay at home unless they are involved in essential activities or doing work at an essential business.The amended declaration takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday March 28th and will expire at 11:59 p.m. April 16 unless extended or rescinded.
