Here’s who drafted these Oklahoma and Tulsa players over the weekend; the Dallas Cowboys must love Oklahoma

The NFL Draft was done over the weekend and it was done beautifully if I do say so myself. The draft had to be done from the virtual side of things and the three day event did not skip a beat, some are even arguing that the virtual draft was better than the normal draft done in person.

The big question from over the weekend is where did the local Oklahoma college athletes get drafted. Here is the number breakdown from the big three schools.

Oklahoma: 4 players drafted

Tulsa: 2 players drafted

Oklahoma State: 0 players drafted

One thing you will learn from this is that the Dallas Cowboys LOVED players from the state of Oklahoma this year. A total of six were drafted and three of them were selected by the Cowboys.

Oklahoma Sooners Drafted:

WR CeeDee Lamb – Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round with the 17th overall pick

Lamb was mocked to go much higher than where he actually got selected. This has nothing to do with the type of player CeeDee is, but more with how the board fell. Tackles and quarterbacks were being taken left and right which forced the Oklahoma star to drop. He couldn’t have landed in a bigger spotlight though. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones probably never had any intention to draft a wide receiver with their first round selection, but when a player like Lamb falls to you, you take him. Good for Jerry on not making the same mistake twice. (Cowboys passed on Randy Moss in 1998).

This gives Dallas THE best wide receiver trio in the NFL. Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb. Have fun, Dak Prescott.

LB Kenneth Murray – Drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the first round with the 23rd overall pick

Kenneth Murray went right where he was projected to go. The speedy, highly talented linebacker was though of so highly by the Chargers that they traded back into the first round to take him. Their first pick was Oregon QB Justin Herbert.

The Chargers got the heart and soul of the Sooners defense, and LA fans should be pumped about it.

QB Jalen Hurts – Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round with the 53rd overall pick

Shocker of the draft? For sure. I don’t think anyone outside of the Eagles front office would have figured they would draft a quarterback in the second round, let alone Jalen Hurts. But, the Eagles definite got a leader in their quarterback room.

You can’t really count on Carson Wentz to stay healthy for a full 16-game season, so this might actually be a solid draft pick. Plus, I am sure Eagles head coach Doug Pederson will have some specific plays and formations to play in just to get him on the field. Hurts is a pure athlete.

DT Neville Gallimore – Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round with the 82nd overall pick

Gallimore was a steal for the Cowboys in the third round, plus a great positive is that the Cowboys just signed former Oklahoma Sooners DT Gerald McCoy. McCoy said he will take Gallimore under his wing. Saying he is excited might be an understatement.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane’s Drafted:

CB Reggie Robinson ll – Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round with the 123rd overall pick

Robinson was a favorite of mine personally. He has the energy, the length and the skill to really be a dominate player at the next level. The Dallas Cowboys came into Thursday night with very limited cornerback depth, but they left with one of the best in the league. Robinson is going to bring his “A” game to the Cowboys defense and special teams. Robinson loves blocking field goal attempts, he has one each year he played at Tulsa.

DE Trevis Gipson – Drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round with the 155th overall pick

Gipsion was one of those guys in this draft where if you watched his film, he stood out. Trust the tape and that’s exactly what the Chicago Bears did. Gipson will provide great depth to that already stellar defensive line in Chicago. The Bears scouts say they like him because of the chip on his shoulder he plays with. Gipson is out to prove he belongs in the NFL.
