(Oklahoma City, OK) Over the weekend, Oklahoma City was one of many cities across the country that saw protests over racial injustices that have been gaining national attention. Thousands took to the streets in the state’s capital that began as a peaceful protest on Sunday.

The day saw peaceful rallies until 9 pm, when the night saw the rallies evolve as protesters set off fireworks and began throwing things at Oklahoma City Police headquarters. Officers responded with tear gas as they had the night before.

A state of emergency and curfew were set in place by Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt from 10 pm to 5 am Monday.

While some protesters went the riot route, others disavowed acts of violence like the leaders of Black Lives Matter. Rallies were held in the parking lot at NE36 and Kelley where Black Lives Matter representatives gave speeches.
