The Good Lord Bird and Unorthodox are among the second batch of Peabody Award winners, announced Tuesday.
Showtime’s limited series The Good Lord Bird, starring Ethan Hawke, picked up the honor in the Entertainment category for being “a rich and complex portrayal of a madman who would become a martyr, offered through the eyes of African Americans.”
Chris Rock presented the award virtually to Hawke, who called it “the honor of his life.”
The Netflix limited series Unorthodox, starring Shira Haas, was also honored in the Entertainment category. Peabody commends the show “for taking a hard look at how a religious community enforces strict gender roles to maintain its identity no matter the human cost.”
Natasha Lyonne presented the show’s award, and showrunner Anna Winger and Haas both delivered virtual acceptance speeches.
On Monday, Ted Lasso and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert were announced as winners. More Peabody winners are set to be unveiled over the course of this week.
