Enid Police Release Statement on Yesterday’s Grain Elevator Incident

The Enid Police Department put out the following press release: At 2:21 p.m., Enid Police Department officers were called to the 1200 block of North Van Buren reporting a suspicious person. Upon arrival, officers were told a man was climbing the nearby grain elevator.
Officers went to the grain elevator and observed the man acting erratically [redacted] At one point, the man said he had a firearm and threatened to shoot any officers who entered the structure. It was later determined he was not armed.
Officers at the scene negotiated with him for several hours as he entered and exited the structures on the grain elevator. The man ultimately climbed to the top of the tower [redacted]. After some difficulties, officers managed to get to his location at 5:07 p.m. [redacted] He was unconscious but breathing.
The man was secured and Enid Fire Department was able to use a harness and basket to lower the man to the ground beginning at 8:01 p.m. At 8:57 p.m., the man was transported by Life EMS to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center and admitted to the ICU.
