A smashed and re-assembled guitar of Kurt Cobain's sold at auction on May 20th for $595,000 — nearly ten times its original estimate of $60,000. The lefty black Stratocaster, which remains unplayable, was sold as part of Julien's Auctions' “Music Icons” event that also featured pieces by the Beatles, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Kiss, Motley Crue, Led Zeppelin, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, among many others.

Blabbermouth posted the guitar was “Signed by all three members of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, with additional inscriptions to Mark Lanegan (of Screaming Trees) by Cobain that read: 'Hell-o Mark! Love, Your Pal, Kurdt Kobain / Washed up rockstar' as well as the inscription Boddah Lives engraved to the neck plate (referring to Cobain's childhood imaginary friend) is housed in a black hard case with 'Abort Christ' written on the top in white block letters and includes a white Ernie Ball guitar strap.”

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger counts himself among Kurt Cobain's legion of fans. He told us what he feels Nirvana meant to his generation: “They just gave everybody an entirely different way to look at things. Y'know, I just really loved his, y'know, who-gives-a-f**k attitude. I just think that he's still sorely missed.”
