Barbie and Oppenheimer opened on the same day in 2023, creating a double feature many referred to as Barbenheimer. On Monday (December 11th), the movies also received the most Golden Globe Award nominations. Barbie led the way with nine nods, and Oppenheimer followed close behind with eight. For television, Succession left other series in its wake with nine nominations.
When it comes to snubs, The Color Purple was left out of the Best Motion Picture category and Ava DuVernay’s Origin did not receive any nods. Ferrari and Napoleon also did not receive any nominations. For television, previous nominees and Abbott Elementary stars Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, and Tyler James Williams did not receive any nominations this year. The Morning Show actors Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were also left out.
The 81st annual Golden Globes ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS on January 7th.
