Earlier this week, Doors‘ drummer, John Densmore posed in front of the Morrison Hotel, a landmark made famous by the band and legendary rock photographer Henry Diltz. The hotel became famous with their iconic album cover from 1970.

They were invited there as the hotel has been acquired by Healthy Housing Foundation, a division of AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Diltz told the story of how the cover of Morrison Hotel was shot, calling it “almost accidental,” because a young guy working in the lobby wouldn’t let the band pose inside the hotel. Watching through the window, he saw the elevator light go on, realized the guy had left the desk, and told the band to run inside. He said, “It took five minutes, and one roll of film.”

The Morrison Hotel is located in downtown Los Angeles.
