Driver Swerves Off Road to Avoid Deer Near Covington

On Tuesday, December 26th at 6:11 am, an injury collision occurred 3 miles southeast of Covington on OK-164. The wreck happened when Verna Jean Smith, age 57 of Covington was headed westbound on OK-164 when a deer appeared in the roadway.

This caused Smith to swerve off the roadway to avoid hitting the deer, Smith’s vehicle then overturned. She was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s in Enid where she was admitted in stable condition. The wreck was investigated by Trooper Robertson #601 and assisted by the Covington Fire Department.
