(Tulsa, OK) Despite delaying his rally by a day, the Trump campaign has announced that the rally set for this weekend has more than 200,000 requests for tickets last Friday. The event, scheduled at the BOK Center on Saturday the 20th, was moved from its original date of June 19th after backlash from the black community. Juneteenth is celebrated as the day when slaves learned of their freedom, and is the 99th Anniversary of the Tulsa Race Riots that saw black businesses destroyed and people killed.

Despite the backlash, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale stated on Twitter on Sunday that the requests had escalated to over 800,000 people wanting to attend the rally. The BOK Center has a maximum seating capacity of 19,200 prompting the Trump campaign to consider a second event in the city.

Oklahoma is in phase 3 of its reopening plan. In a post on Twitter, Parscale praised the state for being “the most open state in nation.” Despite this, the Trump campaign acknowledge “that an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present,” and that by attending the rally, guests “voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.”
