The Enid Police Department let out a statement regarding the upcoming Cherokee Strip Parade. As stated by EPD, “Beginning at 9 a.m., one of our officers will begin the escort from the Chisholm Trail Expo Center south on Grand Avenue to the parade grounds.
We are asking motorists to please give ample spacing between their vehicles and the cattle. A wide berth is needed to keep the herd calm and together as they make the walk downtown.
We understand this “cattle drive” might impact a few motorists and apologize in advance for any inconvenience. But, a minimum of five car-lengths distance is needed to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”
They also ask everyone to “Please do not approach too closely or attempt to take photos of the cattle while driving. Do not attempt to pass or go around the herd as it travels.”
Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution when driving around the downtown Enid area as it will be crowded.
Here is a rough breakdown of the schedule for the weekend event:
Friday, September 15th
From 11 am to 1 pm, Cherokee Strip Celebration – Lunch Rush, Indian Taco & Drink for $10, courthouse lawn.
Saturday, September 16th
9 am to 1:30 pm, Cherokee Strip Festival – food and vendor booths open on the courthouse lawn.
10:30 am, Cherokee Strip Parade in downtown Enid.
