The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden announced that a recently-born female giraffe calf is now ready for the public.

The giraffe enclosure was closed for a while to allow Azizi to bond with her mother Juju, but now it has reopened. All pathways are now open at Expedition Africa and are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Azizi was born on October 10 by her mother Juju according to her caretakers. They observed Azizi carefully to ensure that she would grow healthy. They came to the conclusion that she is in fact healthy and is navigating her environment and showing interest in solid foods.

The OKC Zoo’s Curator of Primates and Ungulates, Tracy Dolphin, expressed her happiness with Azizi.

“We are all in love with Azizi and excited to welcome Zoo guests to Expedition Africa to see her and our entire giraffe family,” she said. “Guests will be in awe of the vast and enriching spaces created for our herd and other iconic African species that will call Expedition Africa’s savanna home. These advanced developments will enable us to grow our herd and further connect guests to these amazing animals. We are extremely grateful to our guests and community partners like Love’s Travel Stops for their continuous support of the Zoo and this major project.”
