The Oklahoma Blood Institute is experiencing an emergency blood shortage, as their blood supply falls below 50% of the blood supply needed. In response to this shortage, the Oklahoma Blood Institute has decided to extend its operating hours to open up more giving opportunities.

New hours for the Oklahoma Blood Institute are Monday-Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. The National Blood Supply has stayed near emergency levels since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. John Armitage said, “all indicators are pointing us in a dangerous direction”. The Oklahoma Blood Institute supplies blood for over 90% of Oklahoma’s blood supply to over 160 hospitals and medical facilities.
