In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Pioneer Head Baseball Coach Dave Riesen to discuss the upcoming Merrifield Tournament.
The coach began by sharing which part of the team has been the key to success during the
“Definitely our pitching staff. We’ve pitched it really well, I believe our team ERA is about 1.75, somewhere in that neighborhood. We haven’t had any bad outings on the mound, so even when we haven’t swung it [well], we’ve been in every ball game…as the old saying goes, ‘If you can pitch it, you will always have the chance;’ and we pitch it really well.”
Riesen highlighted his gratitude for athletes who partake in multiple sports.
“Most of the time, my best players have been multi-sport athletes, playing at least two sports. I always think it’s good to get away from baseball for a while and do other things and compete. I believe that playing other sports makes them [better athletes] and also keeps them competing all the time. So, I love it when our kids play more than one sport….”
