In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Perry Head Football Coach Travis Cole to preview the upcoming season.
The coach started off by highlighting summer practices.
“Everything’s gone pretty well. It’s been a little bit of a different change for us. We graduated, I think, 17 or 18 starters from last year. So we got a lot of, not necessarily new faces, but a lot of guys that haven’t had a ton of experience. We’re switching some things up offensively and have new defensive coordinators. Things are different there; it’s gone really well.”
When asked to point out some top performers on the team, here’s what Coach Cole had to say:
“They’ve done a good job. Especially defensively, he was on staff last year and got promoted to defensive coordinator this year, Josh Factor. He’s doing a great job. Kids are picking things up really well. I’ve been really impressed with that. Offensively, it’s been a lot different. We’ve added an offensive line coach who’s doing a good job. I feel like that group’s progressed. The biggest thing for us, our experienced returning player, Andrew Kukuk, is going to be a bell cow for us. He’s going to get the ball quite a bit. He’s going to be a four-year starter, a running back in safety; that’s been really impressive….”
