In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Fairview Head Football Coach, Robert Bernard, to discuss their season opening game against Alva.
The coach started off by discussing his anticipation for facing the Goldbugs.
“Anytime you can get with Alva and play, it doesn’t matter what the sport is. The two schools love competing against each other, so we always look forward to this. Being the first game of the year makes it extra special because you want to get out on the right foot, and it makes it that much better that it’s against Alva.”
Bernard reflected on the unique challenge of facing Alva, noting how rarely his team encounters this style of play and how much he values preparing his athletes for something unfamiliar.
“It’s definitely always interesting when you get to prepare for Alva. Moreland ran this over the years against us, too. So we get to see it every once in a while. And I think that’s what makes it so difficult, is you don’t see it very often anymore…I always look forward to these kinds of games just because of the challenge of getting your kids ready for something they’re not very familiar with.”
