In this interview, Colby Talley sat down with Covington-Douglas Head Football Coach Brian Smith to discuss the upcoming matchup against Garber.
The coach started by sharing the excitement of playing their rivals in this upcoming matchup.
“It’s always big. It’s a fun rivalry [with] a great atmosphere, whether it’s at Covington or in this case, it’s at Garber this year. The crowd’s right on top of you, and everybody knows a lot of families from each of the opposing teams. These kids, you [either] played against them or coached against them in fifth/sixth and junior high. You just get pretty familiar with everybody. And it’s just a fun rivalry, a game you want to play well in.”
“Grayson Marler, Hayden Willard, Brayden Thayer, [and] Micah Chartier are some of them [who] have stepped up into a bigger role. Rylan Fisher played a lot last year, and his role is different this year. Justus Halcomb the same…”
The coach continued about changing the game plan as two key players are still recovering from game injuries:
“We’re trying to absorb and come up with a different game plan of what we can do to attack both the [offensive] and defensive side.”
