The Enid Police Department arrested Kassandra Thomas, 25, on Friday, Oct. 10 on felony complaints of child abuse and child neglect after a neighbor heard Thomas’ two children screaming for their mother.
EPD officers responded to a call at 8:47 a.m. from Rolling Meadows Apartments at 3225 E. Randolph Ave., and discovered the children had been locked in one of the apartment’s bedrooms. One of the children was locked inside a closet in the same bedroom.
Thomas told Detective Austin Lenamond that she left her apartment at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning to babysit a relative’s child. She told the officers that her children were sleeping and she didn’t foresee any problem. Thomas also told the detectives that the kids’ bedroom was locked from the outside because if her son got out, he would “tear up the apartment.”
Responding officers noted trash was scattered throughout the apartment, with piles of animal feces everywhere.
Thomas was placed under arrest at the conclusion of her interview. The Department of Human Services took custody of Thomas’s children.
