Dr. Bonn began by discussing what makes criminology so intriguing to the masses:
“Everyone loves the whodunit, so cases, especially cold cases, that have yet to be solved are always intriguing. My focus specifically is on serial killers, and these individuals are so heinous in their behavior and so dark in their motivations that I think it’s just so compelling to people. We’re drawn to it to try to understand how someone could do these horrible things to complete strangers, and, you know, try to make sense of it all. And if we make sense of it all, maybe we can sleep a little better at night.”
Dr. Bonn shared some popular topics in the genre:
“I would say the two that probably come up more than any others are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer. If there [were] a Mount Rushmore of serial killers, the two of them would certainly be on it. And, so they’ve really stood the test of time. And my focus, my presentation is, specifically on serial killers, most of it based upon my actual experiences with these individuals, having profiled and interviewed them. So I share tremendous insights into their dark natures and personalities and what compelled them to kill again and again and again without any pity or remorse.”
