CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Covington-Douglas Head Football Coach Brian Smith to discuss the offseason practices.
Coach started off by sharing how offseason practice has been so far:
“We did a lot of them with the state track meet finishing up, and then we had about a week of them. [It] went well. I think we’re a lot farther advanced at this time at this stage right now than we were last year at this time. The knowledge of the offense last year, a lot of rebuilding, a lot of reloading, whatever you want to call it. I think we’re ahead of where we thought we’d be. Got a lot of things to figure out, but I like our work ethic….”
The coach discussed the upcoming summer football game in Miami, Oklahoma, as well as talking about Ryland Fisher and Braden Thayer players receiving honors:
“Yeah, it’s a very deserving honor for both those guys. I’m excited. I’m not coaching in the game this year, but I’m a big part of the eight-man association, and kind of help run that week. So it’s a lot of fun. Those guys will have a good time. It’s always hot up there in Miami during that time of year, and steamy. But it’s a fun week and we keep them busy and got a lot of activities for them.”
