Mary Etta was born in Sacramento, CA on August 19, 1947, and passed away on June 16, 2026, in Oklahoma City.
Mary Etta was christened at Bethel Community Presbyterian Church in San Leandro, California, in 1950. As the daughter of military parents, she traveled extensively throughout her childhood and had the opportunity to experience many different places and cultures. While living in England, she was among the first girls to participate in the newly organized Girl Scouts, an experience she cherished throughout her life. During her senior year, she attended and graduated from Enid High School.
Following high school, Mary Etta continued her education at Enid Business School and later completed cosmetology school, beginning a career that would allow her to combine her creativity with her love for people.
Mary Etta was a gifted and artistic person. She designed beautiful, beaded jewelry and often spent weekends selling her creations in Taos and Santa Fe while continuing her cosmetology work during the week. She had a deep appreciation for Southwestern culture and design and enjoyed decorating her home with unique furnishings and treasures, often carefully purchasing special pieces through layaway long before the days of credit cards.
One of Mary Etta's greatest joys was collecting Miss Piggy memorabilia. She delighted in searching far and wide for additions to her collection. She also had an eye for fashion and took pride in dressing with elegance and attention to detail. She loved designer clothing and jewelry and always wanted to look her best for her clients.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Mary Etta often went above and beyond for those around her. Her caring spirit and genuine interest in others turned many of her clients into lifelong friends.
On July 23, 1999, she married Gregory Veit, and together they made their home in Enid, Oklahoma. Mary Etta enjoyed recording movies and finding special films she could share with Greg. She supported her husband wholeheartedly and took great pride in making their house a warm and welcoming home. She especially loved decorating for the seasons and treasured evenings spent with Greg driving around to admire Christmas lights.
Mary Etta was an excellent cook who enjoyed discovering new restaurants and experiencing different cultures through their foods. She kept up with current events and politics and enjoyed watching Fox News.
Mary Etta was preceded in death by her beloved son, Bradley Kennedy; her mother, Goldie Ruby; her father, John Shinn; and her stepfather, Robert Ruby. She is survived by her husband Greg.
She will be remembered for her creativity, impeccable style, generous heart, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her warmth, kindness, and love for family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary Etta's name may be made to Folds of Honor or Tunnels to Towers, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodian of the funds.
