Lewis Carl Bernard
1951 - 2026

Lewis Carl Bernard was born November 18, 1951 to parents Henry and Ada Hawes Bernard. He passed away June 20, 2026 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He spent most of his growing up years a few miles outside of Duncan, in a small 3 room house, with 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Most of his school years were spent at Central High near Marlow, Oklahoma. Lewis proudly served his country for 4 years in the US Air force.

He married the love of his life Peggy Sue Johnson, on May 24, 1974. He and Peggy celebrated 52 years of marriage recently.

To that union was born 3 children, Candace, Sheri and Luke.

Bro Lewis as he was called by many, was a roofer/contractor by trade and when driving around in areas they had lived in throughout the years, he was known to point out house after house that he had roofed or worked on. He was also an evangelist in the 80’s for several years and preached many revivals seeing many souls brought into the kingdom. Bro Lewis always had a heart for people no matter their background or their pasts, he made sure that you knew he cared. He pastored several churches but by far the longest stint was spent here in Fairfax where he pastored the Full Gospel Assembly three different times; the most recent being from 1995 to the present. He often said that Fairfax is home and told us many times these past few weeks how much he “loves that town”.

He had a treasure trove of stories and jokes to tell and within a few moments of walking into a room he would have everyone laughing.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ada, sister Fran, and brothers, Charles, Henry and Billy Bernard, sister in laws Deloris and Bernice Bernard.

He is survived by his wife Peggy of the home. Children, Candace (Joey) Rogers, Luke (Veronica)Bernard and Sheri Bernard all of Fairfax. Grandchildren include Kaylie (Roger) Wooley, Breanna (Drew) Harrison. Tyler(Rona Mae) Rogers. Nadia Segura Mendoza, Isaac, Nathan (Tenn), Levi, Abel, Tony, Rylan, Aiyva and Atticus. Great grands include Kaira, Donovan, Khloe and Reagan Wooley, Jake Harrison, also great grand baby on the way little Eloise Harrison. His surviving siblings are Mancy (Harold) Massey, Veta (Ronald) Howard, Ronny (Laketa) Bernard, Cecile (Donny) Howard. Sister in law Roma Bernard.

Lewis has a whole host of nephews and nieces too numerous to mention here, just know that he loved you each one and he was so proud when he was told that he recently became a “great-great-great Uncle”. We personally witnessed him telling anyone that would listen ,about being a 3 times great uncle with a big smile on his face. If there was one on-going theme that wove itself through his life it was that every friend was his best friend, and every Scripture was his favorite scripture. He truly lived life to its fullest, loving and having fun every chance he got! What a fine example for us to follow.

Funeral services for Lewis will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 25, 2026 in the Fairfax Highschool Auditorium (106 N 6th Street), commital prayers and interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be at Full Gospel Assembly 228 N Donelson, from 4 to 6 on Wednesday, June 24th with a prayer service to follow at 7 also at Full Gospel Assembly.
