In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Pond Creek-Hunter Head Football Coach Tanner Bowman to discuss Panther Football.

Coach Bowman began by discussing how the offseason has gone so far:

“We had a pretty good spring. We had some guys that were [still] recovering from injuries they sustained during baseball or [the] start of spring practice. We had some guys that played some new spots for us, but we’re very happy with how those guys did and what they looked like. We’re looking forward to the season, and it’s been a good offseason for us here.”

The coach gave some insight on the team’s progress throughout the year, as well as reflecting on last year’s lineup:

“It’s kind of nice because going into it this time last year, we had graduated some guys that were two, three, four-year starters for us. Last year we were pretty young. I think we started four sophomores and two freshmen on offense. Then on defense, we started, I think, four sophomores and one freshman, maybe on defense. Either way, it’s exciting because these guys kind of know what we expect. Defensively, it really surprised me last year. We played a million times better defensively than I had [expected.] Offensively, I think we found an identity towards the end of the year. Now we’re going to come into the season knowing what we’re good at.
We’ve got things we’ve got to work on and develop if we want to be a dangerous team. It is a nice thing. It’s going to be hard to replace those guys.”
