Russell Westbrook, one of the greatest players in franchise history for the Oklahoma City Thunder, announced his retirement on Wednesday, August 12th. “Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end,” the 37-year-old said on social media.
Westbrook had a standout career, making it to the Final 4 in college with UCLA and winning an MVP with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook remained a fan favorite with the Thunder throughout his tenure and helped lead the Thunder to an NBA Finals appearance and 4 Western Conference Finals Appearances.
Westbrook, who has played in nine All-Star games, averages 20.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 8 assists per game over his career. He set a new NBA record for triple-doubles in 2021 with 209, breaking Oscar Robertson’s previous record of 181 that had been in place since 1974.
