Linda Carol WiensEnid, OK

Linda Carol Barton Wiens, 81, died August 12, 2026. Born in Prague, Oklahoma to Margaret Nolan Barton and W. Frank Barton on October 18, 1944. Tragically, Linda's mother died in a car accident when she was five years old: this likely was the reason Linda possessed deep compassion for others, became a clear presence in the lives of so many and why motherhood eventually became her life's work. Linda grew up in Wichita with her older brother Steve. The big city just north of the Oklahoma offered her father exciting new business opportunities. When her father finally remarried, she welcomed a new generation of younger siblings into her world. Linda liked to remind Craig, Shera and Clay, she had diapered their bottoms! After graduating from Southeast High school, she earned her degree in Interior Design from Kansas State University. Linda happily landed in Big D working for Sears and Roebuck as a top tier saleswoman. The new drapery girl at Dallas' premier Valley View Mall found herself heaven sent, quickly falling in love with the Lone Star State and the big city life.

It was a lucky day when she met Don Wiens, who was working as a senior computer programmer for the Federal Reserve Bank. They met at an after-work party and Don was wearing contrasting plaids. It made quite an impression on Miss Barton. Fortunately, he got her telephone number, and thus, their romance and 55-years of marriage became one of legend. On the coldest day of the year, January 16, 1971, they were united in marriage at East Heights United Methodist Church. Unbelievably, Champagne was served and the bride's dress was knee-length. Still, unbeknownst to her, Enid, Oklahoma was to be her destiny. At the Wiens' Family bequest and with her own father's blessing, she and Don moved to Oklahoma to help farm his family's land and legacy. Frugal and sensible were these two newlyweds. Their only child, Lisa Dawn, was born four years later during March Madness while Linda's K-State Wildcats were playing in the Elite 8!

Together they raised her with compassion, wisdom, love, and laughter. Her own business, Interiors By Linda, gave her more flexible hours to work in design and be present for her family. Possessed with a mighty gift for hospitality Linda created a home where folks longed to congregate. She served her community and created a vibrant life with friends playing tennis, golf and cutthroat bridge, fundraising for Multiple Sclerosis, serving on the boards of their United Methodist Church, PEO and of Oakwood Country Club. Linda quietly guided her daughter to look at colleges in Texas and delighted when she would have many years and reasons to return to Big D! Linda invested in each and every friendship that crossed her path. As the party host extraordinaire, she and Don welcomed their new son-in-law into the family with style and the champagne flowed. As their little family grew with three blessed grandchildren, Linda became Yaya. Yaya and Poppy Don welcomed everyone to their home in Horseshoe Bay, TX as they officially became snowbirds in her beloved and missed home of Texas. Linda became active with the ladies golf in HSB and it was her great joy for friends and family to head south for golf, shopping, dining out or a lovely glass of wine in the veranda.

Although diagnosed in 2016 with Alzheimer's Disease, it was Linda's big heart that gave out in the end. Succumbing to Cardiac/Vascular disease Linda left this earthly world quietly in her sleep, surrounded by family, still blessedly knowing all her friends and family. The blessing of her presence is already deeply missed.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret; her step-mothers, Darlene and Patsy; her parents-in-law, Arthur and Ollie May Wiens; and her siblings, Clay, Shera, and Steve.

She is survived by her husband Donald Arthur Wiens; daughter Lisa Dawn Wiens Thompson and her husband Zachary and their children Zaryn Barton, Katelyn Mae, and Zane Arthur of Andover, KS; brother Craig Barton and wife Kathy of Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law Mona Helberg of Enid, OK and Barbara Persels of Wichita, KS as well as a family of cousins, nieces and nephews.

September 12, 4 pm: Bartlett Arboretum. SW corner of 55th & Line Street, Belle Plaine, KS.
