In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Alva Head Football Coach Ryne Wilson to discuss the season opener against Fairview.
Coach Wilson began by sharing how summer pride went:
“Man, it was great. We had over 75% of our guys make over 80% of the workouts this year, which hadn’t happened in a while. We’re trending in the right direction. We had a lot of kids show up. Our numbers are way up. Last year, we finished the season with around 30 kids. Now we’re up to 40, and that number [keeps growing] as school has started. We’re getting a little bit better. Got in the weight room. Coach Meade is doing a great job with our strength and conditioning. Man, we got a lot stronger; we still have a long way to go, but the foundation is there.”
The Coach gave some insight on the matchup against Alva
“It’s going to be a tough one. It’s a tall task, and it’s going to be a dogfight for us. It’s going to be one of those to see truly how far we’ve come in the last year because last year opening kickoff takes…They turn around, and they score two plays later. So, it’ll be a true test to see where we are, [and] how we measure ourselves compared to where we were last year. They’re a great team…They do everything the right way, and they work hard, and they’re a well-oiled machine.”
