George Wyatt Highfill, 63, of Cherokee, Oklahoma, passed away tragically on September 18, 2026.
George was born on August 18, 1963, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and spent his life serving his community and loving his family. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1981 and began his career working for the county shortly after graduation. Throughout his life, George worked driving trucks and motor graders for both the county and the State of Oklahoma. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Alfalfa County District 3.

At the age of 25, George accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, a decision that guided his life and faith. His love for the Lord was reflected in his faithful service to his church and community. George taught Sunday School, worked with the Royal Ambassadors (RA) boys' groups, and spent many years supporting and sponsoring youth attending Falls Creek. He was passionate about helping young people grow in their faith and took great joy in encouraging the next generation.
On November 29, 1997, he married the love of his life, Debra Highfill. Through their marriage, George was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Hether Barsulai and Ashly Smith, whom he loved as his own. In 1999, he welcomed his youngest daughter, Hally Guffy, completing the family that meant everything to him.

George was happiest outdoors. He enjoyed driving tractors, fishing, and spending time looking out the window watching the world go by. He had a deep appreciation for simple pleasures and hard work. More than anything, George loved his family fiercely and was immensely proud of his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Highfill; his daughters, Hether Barsulai and Chris McKinney, Ashly Smith and Antonio Martinez, and Hally Guffy and Chris; his cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Aizleigh, Ezra, Aivionna, and Lincoln; his siblings, John Highfill and wife Denise, of Selma, North Carolina, Lillian Highfill, and Charles Highfill both of Enid; uncles George Stottmann of Muskogee, Oklahoma and John Stottmann of Seiling, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard B. and Rachel Highfill; his brothers, Richard E. Highfill and David Highfill; his uncle, Lawrence Highfill; and his grandparents.

George will be remembered for his strong work ethic, unwavering faith, kind heart, and devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the young people he mentored, and the family he loved so deeply. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Cherokee. Interment will follow at Cherokee Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Cherokee First Baptist Church Falls Creek Youth Fund, a ministry that was close to George's heart and one he faithfully supported for many years.
