The Garfield County Health Department has opened an investigation into a case of at least one student catching tuberculosis within the Enid Public School district.

EPS is cooperating with the health department as they sent out a text to parents and guardians on Tuesday morning saying that if their student was believed to have been exposed, then they would have received a message on Monday.

Tuberculosis, also known as TB, spreads through the air and can stay in the air for hours, making the matter of isolating any active or potential cases one of utmost importance. The unnamed student who is said to have an active case of TB has already been isolated.

The schools intend to remain open with classes commencing as normal. The health department will be conducting testing on Oct. 26-27 with parents of students under the age of 18 being tasked with either giving or withdrawing consent to have their child tested.
